Review
Alright, so today I’m back with yet another chapter review, and today we will go over Chapter 260, which is going to be something really special as we will be diving into Kaiser’s backstory. This is something you definitely don’t want to miss. So, be sure to stick till the end because there’s a lot to unpack here.
To start off, Chapter 260 opens with the text: “Kaiser’s past is revealed. Raised in an unloving, abusive, depressive household, the life of Michael Kaiser begins.” Right from the beginning, we get an emotional dive into Kaiser’s backstory. The scene starts with someone we assume to be Kaiser’s father. He’s holding a beer in one hand, while his other hand is wrapped around Kaiser’s face. All Kaiser can do is cry as he looks at his abusive father. The narration explains that Kaiser’s childhood was something no child should have to endure.
Kaiser’s Early Life
We learn that Kaiser’s father was a small-time theater director, and his mother was his father’s lead actress. Shortly after giving birth to Kaiser, the mother abandoned him and the father, going on to become a star actress. Kaiser’s father, on the other hand, was cast into the shadows of her success and entered an endless spiral of self-destruction, turning into an alcoholic gambling addict.
As a result, Kaiser was subjected to constant abuse. His father forced him to steal from local stores, and if he failed to bring back the right items, he would be beaten. Despite becoming an expert thief, nothing he did could stop the daily abuse.
Life-Changing Moment
Kaiser’s life took a turning point on his 12th birthday. After saving some stolen money, Kaiser bought himself a football. He found solace in it, noting that no matter how much he kicked or punched the ball, it never got angry or hurt. It became his silent companion during the hardest moments of his life.
However, things took a dark turn when he was falsely accused of a crime he didn’t commit. His father’s reaction was brutal, smashing a beer bottle on Kaiser and berating him. But this time, something inside Kaiser snapped. In a fit of rage, he kicked his father down to the ground, a moment that seemed to awaken something new inside him—a sense of self-identity.
New Beginnings
As Kaiser was being arrested, a mysterious figure named Ray Dark, a World Football Association scout, approached him with an intriguing offer. He asked Kaiser if he loved football and promised to get him out of jail if he did. The chapter ends with the line: “Will the light shining into the abyss be a ray of hope?” Kaiser’s new life as a footballer is about to begin.
Chapter Review
First and foremost, I absolutely hate Kaiser’s dad. He put Kaiser through so much pain and suffering, simply because his mother left him. I really hope that Ray Dark will treat Kaiser better in the upcoming chapters. This backstory also explains why Kaiser and Ness are so close, both having tragic childhoods. While their struggles are different, you can’t deny that both of them experienced hardship. One of the most satisfying moments was when Kaiser finally stood up to his father, kicking him to the ground. Unfortunately, the police intervened, but it was a powerful moment nonetheless.
Also, can we talk about how much Ray Dark resembles Noel Noah? They look almost identical, and I can’t help but wonder if there’s more to their connection.
Final Thoughts and Theories
Overall, this chapter was filled with intense emotion and powerful storytelling. What do you think Ray Dark has planned for Kaiser? Will this be the start of Kaiser’s football journey, or will there be more twists?
